Can you make court recommendations in a custody case?

No. Providing a recommendation to the court on behalf of a parent is out of my scope of practice and something I will not do. If I am subpoenaed to court then I can only speak of the client’s treatment and what is ethically and clinically appropriate. Appearing in court, communicating with lawyers / ad litems, and writing letters is not a “medical necessity” and is not covered by insurance. Therefore, you have to pay out of pocket for each of these services. Cost are broken down in the Informed Consent Document provided to you before services begins.
